A series of high-profile detentions continues in Kyrgyzstan as the Military Prosecutor’s Office expands an investigation involving former and current officials of the State Committee for National Security.
Among those detained is former deputy chairman of the State Committee for National Security, Timur Shabdanbekov, who is suspected of abuse of office, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.
He was reportedly detained by the officers of the Military Prosecutor’s Office.
Several other individuals are also implicated in the case, including the head of “Red Petroleum” company Akylbek Mamatov, former deputy head of the State Property Management Fund Bekzat Abdikakharov, as well as multiple current and former employees of the State Committee for National Security.
According to reports, those detained also include a former deputy head of the State Committee for National Security's regional office in the Naryn region and several department heads, including units focused on cybercrime.
Officials have not yet released full details of the charges, and the specific roles of each suspect remain unclear.
Earlier, former deputy chief of the State Committee for National Security Daniel Rysaliev was also detained in Bishkek and later placed under house arrest by court order.
