A Ukrainian drone attack on the central district of Russia’s Novorossiysk city has left two people dead and three others injured.
The casualties are believed to have been caused by falling debris from intercepted drones, The Caspian Post reports via Ukrainian media.
The strike reportedly damaged five residential buildings, including apartment complexes, as well as a hotel in the port city, which holds the honorary title of Hero City for its World War II legacy.
Local emergency services have been placed on high alert, and Russian military units are continuing efforts to intercept and neutralize additional threats.
In a statement posted to Telegram, Krasnodar Krai Governor Veniamin Kondratyev expressed condolences to the victims’ families and instructed city officials to assist the wounded.
“I offer my sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased. I’ve directed Novorossiysk Mayor Andrey Kravchenko to ensure full support is provided to the injured,” Kondratyev said.
The governor also appealed to residents to remain calm, adhere to safety protocols, and stay indoors if possible.
According to regional news outlet Kuban 24, the city’s "Attention Everyone" alert system was activated around 10:00 a.m. (GMT+3), warning of possible drone and UAV incursions. By midday, Mayor Kravchenko confirmed that air defense systems were actively engaged in repelling the attack.
Novorossiysk, a key Black Sea port and strategic military location, has seen a rise in attempted drone strikes amid Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to disrupt Russian supply lines and infrastructure deep inside the country.
