Erdogan to Talk Ukraine and Gaza with Trump on Monday

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that he will have a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump on Monday, with the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza expected to be the main topics of discussion.

Speaking to reporters in Istanbul on Friday, Erdogan confirmed the talks would focus on these key regional crises, The Caspian Post reports, citing Turkish media.

Erdogan praised the massive pro-Palestine rally held on Istanbul's Galata Bridge on New Year's Day, calling it a historic demonstration that "showed clearly that Palestine is not alone." He vowed that Türkiye would never abandon Gaza, condemning Israel's ongoing attacks and the severe humanitarian suffering, particularly of children living in makeshift shelters. He warned that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "will not escape accountability." Despite restrictions on delivering aid and temporary housing to Gaza, Erdogan pledged Türkiye would continue exploring all avenues to support Palestinians.

On Ukraine, he stated Türkiye maintains close contact with all parties, including Russia, Ukraine, and Western allies. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is set to represent Türkiye at a "coalition of the willing" summit in Paris next week. The upcoming call with President Trump underscores Türkiye's continued diplomatic activism, positioning itself as a mediator with access to multiple sides in both conflicts. Ankara has consistently offered to facilitate talks on Ukraine and has been a vocal advocate for the Palestinian cause on the international stage.
