Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump held a phone conversation to discuss several key issues related to current global developments, Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov confirmed on Monday.
The discussion focused primarily on the situation surrounding the conflict involving Iran and the ongoing trilateral negotiations aimed at reaching a settlement in the war in Ukraine with the participation of US representatives, The Caspian Post reports, citing the Kremlin.
"The conversation reportedly lasted about an hour and was described as businesslike, frank and constructive, reflecting the typical tone of dialogue between the Russian and US leaders," said Ushakov. "It was the first phone call between the two presidents since late December 2025."
During the call, Putin outlined several ideas aimed at achieving a swift political and diplomatic resolution to the Iranian conflict. He referred to his recent contacts with leaders of Persian Gulf countries, as well as with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other international leaders.
Trump, in turn, shared his assessment of the situation in the context of the ongoing US-Israeli military operation against Iran. Both sides described the exchange of views on the issue as substantive and useful.
The US president also reiterated his interest in ending the war in Ukraine through a swift ceasefire that could lead to a long-term settlement. Both sides positively assessed mediation efforts carried out by Trump and his team.
