Russia Will Respond to Ukrainian Strike on Presidential Residence, Putin Tells Trump

Russian President Vladimir Putin told US President Donald Trump during a phone call that Ukraine’s drone attack on his presidential residence in the northwestern Novgorod region “will not go unanswered,” according to a statement by his aide on Monday.

Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov told journalists that Putin and Trump held another phone conversation, during which Trump briefed Putin on his recent meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Florida, while Putin highlighted Moscow’s claims regarding the drone attack on his residence, The Caspian Post reports, citing Anadolu.

Ushakov said Russia conveyed that such actions “will not go unanswered” and emphasized that Moscow intends to continue working closely and productively with the United States to explore ways to reach a settlement in Ukraine.

“But, naturally, Russia's position will be revised on a number of agreements reached in the previous stage and emerging solutions. This was stated very clearly,” Ushakov added.

He also noted that the alleged strike occurred “practically immediately after” the talks between Trump and Zelenskyy in the US on Sunday, and that the US president was reportedly “shocked, literally outraged” by the incident. The two leaders agreed to continue their dialogue.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claimed that Ukraine carried out a drone attack on Putin’s residence using 91 long-range strike drones. Lavrov said the incident would prompt Moscow to revise its negotiating stance amid ongoing peace talks in Ukraine but stressed that Russia “does not intend to withdraw from the negotiating process with the US.”

In response, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy strongly denied Lavrov’s claims on the social media platform X, arguing that the allegations were intended to “undermine all achievements of our shared diplomatic efforts with President Trump's team.” Zelenskyy added that the accusations aim to “justify additional attacks against Ukraine, including Kyiv, as well as Russia's own refusal to take necessary steps to end the war.”
