Russia's St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov has said that several people were injured after Ukrainian drones targeted infrastructure sites in St. Petersburg.
In a statement posted on Telegram, Beglov said multiple facilities were damaged in the attack and emergency services were working to deal with the aftermath. He confirmed that several people were injured but reported no fatalities, The Caspian Post reports via ASTRA.
The governor noted that the drones targeted infrastructure facilities in the Kronstadt, Kirovsky and Krasnoselsky districts of the city. Authorities have placed emergency response forces on heightened alert as an operational headquarters coordinates recovery efforts.
The reported attack comes as St. Petersburg prepares to host the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), one of Russia’s flagship business events, which is expected to attract foreign investors and business leaders.
Earlier reports from ASTRA indicated that a fire had broken out at the St. Petersburg Oil Terminal, described as the largest oil transshipment complex in northwestern Russia, following the drone strike.
