"We have decided to transform the intergovernmental commission for the comprehensive consideration of bilateral cooperation issues into the Kyrgyz-Tajik intergovernmental council," President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov said following talks with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon.
According to him, the intergovernmental council will be headed by the chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan and the prime minister of Tajikistan, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kyrgyz media.
"In the coming period, the necessary measures will be taken for the qualitative development of trade and economic cooperation through the effective use of the economic potential of the two countries in order to ensure a breakthrough in this direction," the head of state said.
President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon arrived in Bishkek on March 12 for a state visit. As part of the state visit of the Tajik president to Kyrgyzstan, Zhaparov and Rahmon signed an agreement between the two countries on the state border. A total of 16 documents were signed aimed at increasing Kyrgyz-Tajik cooperation.
