Russia Leaves Thousands Without Power in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia

Russian forces have targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, leaving over 5,000 residents in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia without electricity.

Ivan Fedorov, head of the regional military administration, said that power grids in neighboring Dnipropetrovsk were damaged, causing widespread outages, The Caspian Post reports via Ukrainian media.

Energy companies are preparing emergency repairs as soon as security conditions allow. Ukrenergo (state-owned electricity transmission system operator in Ukraine) confirmed that massive night strikes on December 6 hit multiple regions, including Kyiv, Chernihiv, Donetsk, Lviv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, and Kharkiv. Thermal power plants operated by DTEK were damaged, and nuclear plants had to reduce output.

On December 7, Russia launched another strike on energy facilities in Poltava’s Kremenchuk district, disrupting heat and water supply. Authorities are assessing the full damage while prioritizing restoration of critical power and utility services.
