Russia Strikes Ukraine’s Chernihiv, Cuts Power to Thousands

Russian strikes hit Ukraine’s Chernihiv region, damaging five major power facilities and leaving tens of thousands of residents without electricity.

Repair crews are working to restore service, though ongoing attacks and security risks may slow recovery, The Caspian Post reports via Ukrainian media.

Ukraine’s national grid operator Ukrenergo confirmed that energy facilities across Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Dnipropetrovsk were also targeted, prompting outages and emergency power limits. Hourly outage schedules have been suspended and replaced with emergency shutdowns until the system stabilizes.

Chernihiv has faced repeated attacks on its energy infrastructure this month, including strikes on January 5 and January 12, causing widespread power shortages and civilian damage.
