Russian Strikes Hit Western Ukraine Power Grid Near Polish Border

Russian forces have struck energy infrastructure in western Ukraine, damaging a high-voltage substation in the Volyn region near the Polish border.

Novovolynsk Mayor Borys Karpus reported that the attack targeted a key power facility in the town of Novovolynsk, about five kilometers from Poland. The strike caused major damage, leaving the substation non-operational, The Caspian Post reports via Ukrainian media.

Emergency teams were deployed to the site following multiple explosions. Over 80,000 residents in Novovolynsk and nearby settlements lost electricity. Critical infrastructure is running on backup generators, while water supply and some heating systems are partially operational.

Energy crews are rerouting power through alternative substations to restore electricity. This strike follows previous attacks on Volyn, including drone strikes on Feb. 7 and major outages in December affecting over 100,000 people.
