US President Donald Trump has said that his administration is considering the possibility of taking control of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy corridors.
Trump noted that the narrow waterway - through which roughly one-fifth of global oil supplies pass - remains open, but the White House still “thinks about taking it under control”, The Caspian Post reports via foreign media.
The Strait of Hormuz sits between Iran and Oman and is considered a key chokepoint for global energy markets. Any disruption in the area can quickly send shockwaves through oil prices and international trade.
Oil markets have already reacted sharply to the ongoing conflict involving Iran. Since the start of the war, global crude prices have surged, climbing to around $100 per barrel, reflecting growing concerns over the stability of energy supplies passing through the region.
