Turkish Suspect Extradited to Kazakhstan Over Embezzlement Case

A Turkish citizen suspected of large-scale embezzlement has been extradited from Montenegro to Kazakhstan, the country’s General Prosecutor’s Office has announced.

According to investigators, the suspect allegedly abused his position as head of a construction company to embezzle more than 6 billion tenge (approximately $13 million), The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.

The funds had been allocated for the construction of residential complexes in Almaty between 2022 and 2024. Authorities claim the money was diverted through fictitious contracts and transfers to affiliated companies.

Following the alleged offenses, the suspect is believed to have left Kazakhstan, leading law enforcement agencies to issue an international arrest warrant. He was later traced and detained in Montenegro in March 2025. After the completion of the required legal procedures, he was extradited to Kazakhstan at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The suspect has been placed in pretrial detention. If found guilty, he could face a prison sentence of up to 10 years, along with the confiscation of property.
