The United Kingdom and Türkiye are expected to sign a new defense and security partnership agreement on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in Ankara.
The agreement is expected to deepen cooperation in key areas, including cybersecurity, counterterrorism, and the defense industry, further strengthening strategic ties between the two NATO allies, The Caspian Post reports via Bloomberg.
The document is scheduled to be signed on July 8 by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Türkiye's Foreign Ministry and representatives of the British prime minister declined to comment on the reported agreement.
Ankara and London already maintain close defense cooperation within NATO, reinforced by Türkiye's agreement to purchase 20 British-made Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets.
The new partnership comes as the United States reassesses its long-term security commitments in Europe, prompting European allies to strengthen defense cooperation. Türkiye is increasingly viewed as a key strategic partner capable of playing a larger role in regional security, while the UK also sees Ankara as an important player with influence over US foreign policy at a time when European governments face growing challenges in maintaining close alignment with President Donald Trump.
