Ukraine Confirms Strike on Lukoil Refinery in Russia

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has confirmed that on February 12, units of the country's Defense Forces targeted the Ukhta Oil Refinery in Ukhta, in Russia’s Komi Republic.

The facility is situated roughly 1,750 kilometers from Ukraine’s border, The Caspian Post reports, citing the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Preliminary reports indicate that the attack caused a fire at the AVT primary oil distillation unit as well as at the visbreaking unit.

The visbreaking unit plays a crucial role in lowering the viscosity of residual feedstock and is used in the production of fuel oil, gasoline, and gas oil.

The Ukhta refinery operates as part of Lukoil PJSC and has an annual processing capacity of around 4.2 million tons of crude oil. Its primary output includes motor gasoline, straight-run gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, and vacuum gas oil.
