A wave of deadly overnight strikes has rocked Ukraine, as missiles and drones hit major cities, leaving at least 13 people dead and 86 injured in one of the most intense attacks in recent weeks.
Explosions were reported across Kyiv, Dnipro, and Odesa, with residential neighborhoods among the hardest hit. Air raid sirens blared nationwide before the strikes, but the scale of the attack overwhelmed several areas, The Caspian Post reports via Ukrainian media.
In Kyiv, at least four people-including a child-were killed. Buildings, a hotel, and key infrastructure were damaged across multiple districts.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko said fires broke out in several locations, as emergency crews worked through the night to rescue survivors and clear rubble.
Authorities in Dnipro described the assault as “massive,” reporting damage to homes, government buildings, and industrial facilities.
In Odesa, the toll was even higher, with at least seven people killed as repeated waves of missile and drone strikes battered the port city, destructing infrastructure and residential areas.
The attacks come amid mounting concerns over Ukraine’s ability to defend its skies. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has recently warned of critical shortages in advanced air defense systems needed to intercept ballistic missiles.
Russia’s continued large-scale aerial assaults are placing increasing strain on Ukraine’s defenses, with civilian areas frequently caught in the crossfire.
