Ukrainian Drone Strike Hits Historic Museum in Crimea

A historic war museum in Sevastopol caught fire after being struck by Ukrainian drones, according to Russian-installed authorities in Crimea, highlighting the continuing escalation of long-range attacks linked to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The targeted museum is dedicated to the Crimean War of 1853-1856, a major conflict involving the Russian Empire and a coalition led by the Ottoman Empire, Britain and France, The Caspian Post reports via Al Jazeera.

Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev said the building’s roof was set ablaze in the strike but did not provide details about casualties or the full extent of the damage.

The attack comes amid a broader wave of drone activity across Russian-controlled territories and regions deep inside Russia. Authorities in Crimea have already reduced overnight train services following a recent drone strike that injured a train driver and killed his assistant.

Russian-installed Crimean leader Sergei Aksyonov said the restrictions were introduced to improve public safety as air attacks continue. The peninsula is also reportedly experiencing fuel shortages after a series of strikes on energy-related infrastructure during the busy summer travel season.

Meanwhile, drone alerts were issued across several Russian regions, including Samara, where air defenses were activated near the major oil-refining center of Novokuibyshevsk. Local authorities temporarily suspended public transportation and urged residents to seek shelter.

Officials in the Rostov and Vladimir regions also reported fires linked to falling drone debris and attacks on industrial facilities. Air raid warnings were issued in multiple regions far from the Ukrainian border.
