The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is already financing four investment projects in Tajikistan totaling over $430 million and has decided to increase funding for the Rogun Hydropower Plant to $500 million.
The announcement came during talks between Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and AIIB President Jin Liqun on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of State Council meeting in Tianjin, China, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.
President Rahmon highlighted the bank’s significant contribution to developing sustainable infrastructure and strengthening regional connectivity. Current AIIB projects in Tajikistan include the construction of the Rogun Hydropower Plant, the largest in the region, and a 920-meter road bridge in the Nurabad District.
The bank has approved an increase in financing for the Rogun HPP to $500 million.
The leaders also discussed potential collaboration in green energy, including the construction and modernization of power plants of various capacities, as well as the deployment of solar and wind installations.
They emphasized the need for financial support for projects in water management, flood and landslide risk reduction, and the implementation of modern monitoring and control technologies.
Additional topics included transport integration, the development of related infrastructure, and the modernization of municipal services.
