CSTO Praises Tajikistan’s Role in Rearmament Program

Deputy Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Valery Semerikov, has praised Tajikistan’s efforts as a coordinator in the CSTO’s rearmament program, highlighting the country’s organizational work to strengthen the Tajik-Afghan border.

“Tajikistan has accomplished significant work this year, assessing member states’ capabilities to prepare, develop, and deliver specific military equipment and weaponry as outlined in the program,” Semerikov said, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.

He added that potential supplies from Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan have already been agreed upon, with funding sources currently being finalized and contracts expected this year.

The 1,300-kilometer Tajik-Afghan border, mostly along the Panj River, is challenging terrain, including over 190 km of land and more than 1,100 km of river boundary. In 2024, the CSTO approved a five-year interstate program to modernize the border, improve infrastructure, enhance security, and equip Tajik border forces with modern tools. The first phase, launched in 2025, already saw substantial progress in weaponry and military equipment deliveries.
