Tajikistan has celebrated a historic milestone in judo as Madina Kurbonzoda became the first female athlete from the country to win gold at the Asian Cadet Championship.
Competing in the 52 kg weight category at the Asian Judo Championship for cadets and juniors, Kurbonzoda delivered a remarkable performance on the opening day of the tournament, The Caspian Post informs via Tajik media.
Kurbonzoda started her campaign in the quarterfinals, defeating Kyrgyzstan’s Samira Dzharova with a commanding victory. In the semifinals, she faced India’s Chaudhary Dhruvi Dahyabhai and secured a swift win, showcasing lightning-fast reflexes and advancing to the final.
The championship climaxed with a tense final against Uzbekistan’s Nigina Umirzakova. The match lasted over ten minutes, testing Kurbonzoda’s skill, endurance, and determination. Rising to the challenge, she emerged victorious, earning Tajikistan its first-ever gold medal at the Asian Cadet Championships.
“The Asian Cadet and Junior Championships are not only a stage for athletes to shine on the continent but also a stepping stone toward the world championships. Kurbonzoda’s victory marks a significant achievement for our national team, which continues to strengthen its position in Asian judo,” the Tajikistan Judo Federation said.
