Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has met with China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi to advance their rapidly expanding strategic partnership, with talks focusing on deeper cooperation in trade, security, technology, and regional diplomacy.
Rahmon reaffirmed that China remains one of Tajikistan’s top economic and investment partners, playing a central role in the nation’s development, The Caspian Post informs via Tajik media.
He also emphasized the positive momentum following his recent talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, calling them a key driver of this year’s bilateral progress.
Wang Yi praised Tajikistan’s achievements under Rahmon’s leadership, saying the country’s fast-paced development is “visible everywhere,” and noting China’s high regard for Tajikistan’s governance model.
The discussions covered a broad spectrum of collaboration - from China’s new global governance initiatives to cultural, economic, and humanitarian ties. Both sides expressed satisfaction with existing cooperation mechanisms and signaled readiness to expand them.
Trade remains a major highlight: two-way turnover exceeded $2 billion in the first 10 months of 2025, with active projects in mining, energy, transport, and agriculture. Tajikistan also signaled ambitions to increase agricultural exports to the Chinese market.
Looking ahead, the two countries plan to step up cooperation in the digital economy, artificial intelligence, and green technologies, while strengthening joint efforts against terrorism, extremism, cybercrime, drug trafficking, and other security threats.
Education and cultural ties continue to grow as well. Rahmon thanked Beijing for its scholarship programs and voiced interest in expanding opportunities for Tajik students, especially in high-demand fields.
Regional cooperation was another key theme. Rahmon thanked China for backing the SCO Anti-Drug Center in Dushanbe and discussed further strengthening multilateral work within the SCO and the Central Asia-China formats.
Rahmon also reaffirmed Tajikistan’s commitment to the one-China principle, noting China’s growing leadership role in global affairs and expressing confidence in the future of the Tajikistan-China relations.
