Tajikistan Dominates Asian Kurash Championship with Four Medals in Kazakhstan

Tajikistan’s national kurash team has delivered a stellar performance at the Asian Kurash Championship, bringing home one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals.

Gold went to Haqnazar Nazarov (90 kg), who dominated the mats with flawless technique, while Dodokhon Qurbonaliyev (+100 kg) narrowly missed the top spot, taking silver, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.

Bronze medals were claimed by Ramziddin Azizov (60 kg) and Navoruz Karimzod (74 kg), cementing Tajikistan’s status among the tournament’s top nations.

The competition continues with the Kurash World Cup on October 30-31, where seven Tajik wrestlers-including Nazarov, Qurbonaliyev, and Azizov-will vie for more honors.

Kurash, a traditional Central Asian wrestling style originating in Uzbekistan, challenges athletes to throw opponents off their feet using towels-a test of strength, technique, and agility. The sport has a rich history, with organized competitions tracing back to the 1920s in the Soviet Union and the International Kurash Association established in 1998.

With their strong showing, Tajikistan’s team is proving it is a rising force in the world of kurash, blending heritage with elite athleticism.
