Tajikistan’s Khatlon Region Leads in Cotton Harvest

Khatlon region has become the first in Tajikistan to announce the completion of its cotton harvest plan.

Speaking at a ceremony on Constitution Day, Khatlon governor Davlatali Said reported that 254,000 tons of cotton have been collected so far-127,000 tons more than last year, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.

The region has 108,000 hectares planted with cotton, and officials aim to reach 300,000 tons by the end of the season.

“I am confident that part of the harvested cotton is still in farmers’ hands due to delayed payments from processing enterprises. This issue is under our control, and the enterprises will soon settle their debts with the farmers,” said the governor.

He noted that Levakan city was the first to meet its harvest plan, followed by Bokhtar, and then the Dusti district.

At the same event, Vice Premier Sulaimon Ziyozoda reported that as of November 4, Tajikistan had collected 364,500 tons of cotton, reaching 93.5 per cent of the national plan, with Khatlon contributing 69.5 per cent.

“There is still a lot of cotton left in Khatlon’s fields, and we hope it will be harvested down to the last boll,” Ziyozoda added.
