Tajikistan has suspended the sale and consumption of Nestle NAN infant formula after the products were found to be non-compliant with regulatory standards.
The country’s Agency for Standardization, Metrology, Certification, and Trade Inspection (TajikStandard) announced on Friday that the formula will be recalled and citizens are advised not to use it, returning any purchased products to the retailer, The Caspian Post reports, citing Tajik media.
TajikStandard, together with the importing company, is currently taking the necessary measures to address the issue.
Nestle has launched a large-scale global recall of selected infant and follow-on formula products after identifying a potential safety risk linked to a specific ingredient used in production,
While the company says no confirmed illnesses have been reported, the breadth of the recall and the extreme sensitivity of infant nutrition have placed both financial performance and brand trust under pressure. Market estimates suggest the disruption could cost Nestle up to 1.2 billion Swiss francs in lost sales, largely driven by product withdrawals, temporary shortages, and consumers switching to alternative brands.
