Turkmen Ambassador to Kabul, Hoja Ovezov, has met with Mawlawi Ahmadullah Wasiq, head of Afghanistan’s National Olympic Committee, Physical Education, and Sports, to discuss ways to expand bilateral cooperation in sports.
Wasiq highlighted the close ties between the two nations, describing Turkmenistan and Afghanistan as “close neighbors and long-standing friends”, The Caspian Post reports via Turkmen media.
He emphasized that “sport can serve as a bridge between peoples” and proposed organizing joint competitions to improve athletes’ skills while strengthening friendly relations between the countries.
Ovezov expressed condolences over the recent earthquake in Afghanistan’s eastern provinces and reiterated Turkmenistan’s readiness to provide necessary assistance. He also underscored that “sport knows no borders” and expressed optimism for further development of sports collaboration.
The meeting reflected a shared commitment to sports diplomacy, which not only fosters athletic achievement and healthy lifestyles but also deepens neighborly cooperation.
Afghan athletes have already won 100 medals in various international competitions this year, including gold and silver at the July Asian Wushu Championship in Shanghai, China.
