Turkmenistan, EBRD Discuss Collaboration in Banking Sector

Turkmenistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Myahri Byashimova held a meeting with the visiting delegation headed by the Managing Director for Financial Institutions of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Francis Malige.

The main objective of the delegation’s visit is to explore the needs of the banking sector of Turkmenistan and define new potential areas of partnership with the EBRD, The Caspian Post reports, citing the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

During the meeting, the sides noted the long-term and fruitful nature of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EBRD, which is reflected in the implementation of more than 80 projects, including those on trade promotion, production, as well as development of small and medium-sized businesses in the country.

The sides reviewed the priorities of the EBRD’s work in Turkmenistan, in particular, its export-oriented approach, collaboration with the banking sector of the country, assistance in the introduction of modern banking practices.

In addition, the parties discussed further cooperation, in particular the preparation of the EBRD Country Strategy for the upcoming period.
