Turkmenistan Expands Inclusive Education with UNICEF Partnership

UNICEF, in partnership with Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Education and key social protection stakeholders, is expanding efforts to implement inclusive education in pilot schools and kindergartens throughout the country.

Teachers and specialists from participating institutions collaborated with national and international experts to enhance the accessibility and inclusivity of learning environments, The Caspian Post informs via Turkmen media.

The initiative is designed to ensure that all children, including those with disabilities and special educational needs, can learn, play, and grow together in classrooms that support equality and participation.

As part of this ongoing nationwide initiative:

Teachers and school principals are undergoing specialized training in modern inclusive education techniques.

Schools are being equipped with adaptive furniture, including adjustable desks and chairs, to better accommodate diverse student needs.

Parents are being actively engaged in the learning process, reinforcing a collaborative, child-centered approach to education.

A key element of the program is the integration of play-based and culturally sensitive teaching practices, which support both academic and emotional development in young learners.

Additionally, the initiative includes measures to strengthen early detection systems and provide timely support for children with special educational needs-laying the foundation for better social inclusion and helping each child reach their full potential within Turkmenistan’s education system.

This inclusive education project reflects a broader commitment to ensuring that no child is left behind, and that the right to quality education is upheld for every learner, regardless of ability.
