Afghan Gold Processing Begins at Uzbekistan’s Termez Hub

Processing of gold raw materials imported from Afghanistan has officially begun at Termiz Gold Production LLC, a jewelry manufacturing company based in the Termez International Trade Center in Uzbekistan.

Head of the Surkhandarya Regional Customs Administration, Izatulla Gulomov, met with executives and representatives of an Afghan gold mining company to discuss placing the raw materials under a customs processing regime, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

Officials said the initiative will strengthen the region’s industrial capacity, support the jewelry sector, and expand exports.

According to the customs administration, the project-launched with support from regional authorities and the Customs Committee of Uzbekistan-creates favorable conditions for processing gold that previously transited from Afghanistan to third countries. Under the new framework, raw materials will be processed within Surkhandarya Region into semi-finished jewelry products and exported as higher value-added goods.

At the initial stage, 20 kilograms of gold valued at $2.9 million have been allocated for processing. Authorities say the project will enhance investment attractiveness, streamline customs procedures, and generate greater added value for the region.

Earlier, the governments of United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan signed a memorandum of understanding to advance the development of Uzbekistan’s mining sector, underscoring growing international cooperation in the industry.
