French Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Walid Fouque, has held his first official meeting with Uzbekistan’s Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, Aziz Abdukhakimov, to discuss a wide range of issues spanning environmental policy, sustainable development, and cultural cooperation.
The meeting placed a strong emphasis on global climate action, particularly in the lead-up to the upcoming COP conference in Belém this November, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
Both sides highlighted the importance of achieving bold and effective outcomes at the international gathering, which will shape the next phase of global environmental commitments.
Discussions also focused on expanding collaboration with the French Development Agency and French private sector partners. Priority areas include mitigating the long-term ecological impact of the Aral Sea disaster in Karakalpakstan, advancing renewable energy projects, improving water resource management, and developing comprehensive waste recycling systems.
In addition to environmental and developmental topics, the two officials explored opportunities to deepen cultural ties. They discussed the promotion of tourism, as well as initiatives to support the teaching of the French language in Uzbekistan-reflecting shared interest in enhancing educational and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
