On August 19, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation from Pakistan, led by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Sahir Shamshad Mirza.
The sides discussed issues of developing multifaceted cooperation and strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Pakistan in implementing the agreements reached during the visit of the Prime Minister of Pakistan to Uzbekistan in February this year, The Caspian Post reports citing Akipress.
The intensification of mutual contacts and exchanges at various levels was noted. Since the beginning of the year, trade volumes have increased by 23% and freight transportation by 50%. Trade houses have been opened in the cities of Karachi and Lahore, and the frequency of direct flights has increased.
Issues of practical cooperation in the military and military-technical spheres were considered, as well as in addressing modern challenges and security threats.
Special attention was given to the prompt practical implementation of the provisions of the trilateral agreement on the Trans-Afghan Railway construction project.
