As of October 22, Uzbekistan’s solar and wind power plants had generated 9 billion kWh of electricity since January, the Ministry of Energy announced.
Currently, the country operates 12 solar photovoltaic facilities and 5 wind farms, with a total installed capacity of 4,682 megawatts, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.
“Thanks to green energy, 2.73 billion cubic meters of natural gas have been saved, and emissions of 4 million tons of harmful substances into the atmosphere have been prevented,” the official statement said.
Between the beginning of this year and 19:00 on October 22, Uzbekistan’s hydropower, solar, and wind power plants collectively generated 14.52 billion kWh of electricity. Thus, renewable energy sources accounted for 23 percent of the country’s total generation - equivalent to the 10-month electricity demand of 7.5 million households or the annual consumption of 6 million households.
A month earlier, at 14:00 on September 23, the amount of electricity produced by the country’s solar and wind power plants stood at 8 billion kWh.
