US President Donald Trump has nominated Sergio Gor, a native of Tashkent, Uzbekistan, as the next US Ambassador to India and concurrently appointed him Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs.
The announcement is pending Senate confirmation, The Caspian Post informs via Uzbek media.
Gor, born in 1986, currently heads the White House Office of Personnel and will retain this position until the confirmation process is complete. He is known for his long-standing involvement in Republican political circles and close ties to Trump, who referred to him as a "wonderful friend" and a loyal supporter over the years.
The dual nomination signals a strategic recalibration of US diplomacy in Asia, as Washington looks to strengthen partnerships in both India and the wider South and Central Asian region amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.
If confirmed, Gor will play a key role in shaping American foreign policy in a region that includes critical partners like India, as well as emerging economies and strategically important nations in Central Asia.
