Uzbek Grandmaster Triumphs at FIDE World Cup 2025

Uzbekistan’s rising chess star, 19-year-old grandmaster Javokhir Sindarov, has won the FIDE World Cup 2025 in Goa, India, defeating China’s Wei Yi in a dramatic final matchup.

The victory not only crowns Sindarov as World Cup champion but also secures his place in the prestigious Candidates Tournament 2026, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

The achievement was so significant that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev paused his speech at the Presidential Olympiad to personally congratulate the young grandmaster, calling it a proud moment for Uzbekistan.

Sindarov will prepare for the Candidates Tournament, set for March 28-April 16, 2026, in Cyprus. The winner of that event will earn the right to challenge reigning world champion Gukesh Dommaraju of India.

A new chapter in global chess rivalry may be on the horizon-and Uzbekistan is right at the center of it.
