Uzbek Leader Among Laureates of 2nd Leo Tolstoy Peace Prize

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has been named a laureate of the 2nd Leo Tolstoy International Peace Prize.

The award was unanimously presented to the leaders of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan - Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Sadyr Japarov, and Emomali Rahmon - during a ceremony in Moscow commemorating the birthday of the celebrated writer and philosopher, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

Valery Gergiev, chairman of the prize jury and artistic director and general director of the Mariinsky Theatre, highlighted that the prize honors exceptional personal contributions to promoting peace and security in Central Asia.

The organizing committee underscored the leaders’ role in signing the March 31 agreement on the tripoint of state borders between Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan, which formally delineated the countries’ shared borders.

Organizers noted that these initiatives significantly contribute to universal and equitable security grounded in international law and have strengthened mutual understanding and cooperation among the peoples of Central Asia.
