Uzbek Leader Visits Japan, Highlights Cultural, Spiritual Ties

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has begun his official visit to Japan with a meeting with Emperor Naruhito in Tokyo, where both leaders highlighted the shared spiritual affinity between the peoples of Uzbekistan and Japan.

The Emperor warmly welcomed the Uzbek leader, noting the visit’s importance for strengthening Uzbek-Japanese friendship and strategic partnership, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

During the meeting, both leaders highlighted that despite the geographical distance, the peoples of Uzbekistan and Japan share spiritual affinity, common traditions, family values, and centuries-old ties from the Great Silk Road. President Mirziyoyev expressed gratitude for Japan’s support of Uzbekistan’s ongoing reforms.

The talks also emphasized the growth of bilateral cooperation in education, human resource development, and cultural exchanges. Over 3,000 Uzbek specialists have completed training programs in Japan, more than 440 citizens have studied under Japanese scholarships, and Japanese is now taught at seven universities in Uzbekistan.

As part of the visit, the Days of Uzbek Culture were held in Tokyo. In 2026, an archaeological exhibition showcasing Uzbekistan’s rich history and cultural heritage is planned across several Japanese cities. The meeting concluded with President Mirziyoyev inviting Emperor Naruhito to pay an official visit to Uzbekistan, further strengthening ties between the two nations.
