Uzbekistan Boosts Potato Production with Major “CARA” Seed Shipment from Egypt

Uzbekistan has received a substantial shipment of high-yield seed potatoes of the “CARA” variety, marking an important step to boost the country’s potato production.

Some 500,000 mini tubers (generation G0) arrived in Tashkent, generously provided free of charge by the Egyptian French Company for Plant Tissue Culture S.A.E (EFC Plants), The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.

The planting is set to begin in August and will be conducted by Agro Gold Premium on protected farmland in the Kashkadarya region. Following initial cultivation, the tubers will be further multiplied and distributed to farmers nationwide to enhance production capacity.

To ensure successful growth, agronomist Muhammad al-Said from EFC Plants arrived in Uzbekistan on July 26. He will provide expert assistance with soil preparation, conduct laboratory analyses of soil and water, and oversee the planting and care processes through the growing season.

This shipment results from agreements made during a delegation visit from the Kashkadarya region to Egypt. The collaboration was formalized through a memorandum of understanding with EFC Plants, in line with directives issued by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during his regional visit.
