Uzbekistan will participate in the development and launch of China’s hyperspectral Earth observation satellite, named “Samarqand-2028”.
The project was announced after a memorandum of cooperation was signed between Uzbekkosmos and STAR.VISION, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
The satellite is named in honor of the upcoming 2028 International Astronautical Congress in Samarkand, the world’s largest space forum, which will be held in Central Asia for the first time.
Uzbekkosmos specialists will develop an artificial intelligence module for the satellite. Its hyperspectral imagery will allow real-time monitoring of air quality, agricultural crops, and forest dynamics, providing precise data for various economic sectors.
The project opens new opportunities for Uzbekistan’s space technology development and strengthens cooperation with leading global space partners.
