Uzbekistan continues maintaining a strong position in the global cotton market, producing around 600,000 tons of raw cotton annually.
This accounts for roughly 2% of global output, placing the country among the world’s top ten cotton producers, despite a significant gap with leading economies, The Caspian Post reports via Russian website.

Global cotton production remains highly concentrated in a few countries. China leads the ranking with about 7.7 million tons (29%), driven by a strong agricultural base and high domestic demand. India follows with around 5.1 million tons (19%), though its output is heavily influenced by weather conditions.
Brazil produces approximately 4.2 million tons (16%), steadily increasing its share through improved efficiency and exports. The United States ranks next with about 3 million tons (12%), remaining a key global supplier despite climate-related volatility.
Other notable producers include Pakistan (around 1.1 million tons), Australia (about 1 million tons), and Türkiye (roughly 0.7 million tons). Uzbekistan, with about 0.6 million tons, continues reforming its cotton sector by focusing on mechanization, production modernization, and deeper processing to increase value-added output.
Experts say the concentration of production in a limited number of countries gives major producers significant influence over global prices and trade flows.
