Uzbekistan is set to receive a $200 million investment from the World Bank to modernize its transport infrastructure and accelerate long-awaited sector reforms.
The funding package will support a major overhaul of logistics and railway systems, alongside critical upgrades to road infrastructure in the country’s southern regions, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
A key part of the project focuses on the reconstruction of a 91-kilometer section of the M-41 highway in Surkhandarya Region. The road will be expanded from two to four lanes, with improved pavement, enhanced safety measures, and the construction and rehabilitation of nearly 180 bridges and drainage systems.
Beyond physical infrastructure, the initiative also aims to reshape Uzbekistan’s transport future by developing a national multimodal transport strategy and reforming the state railway operator Uzbekiston Temir Yollari.
