Starting April 1, 2026, Uzbekistan will implement expanded cashless payment requirements in several sectors.
Citizens are advised to familiarize themselves with available payment methods and steps to take in case of technical issues, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
Currently, widely used options include bank cards, QR payments, NFC contactless technology, instant-issue Moment cards, and virtual cards. Cash can be added to cards via ATMs, bank branches, or info kiosks that support card deposits. For those without a card, commercial banks offer instant Moment cards or virtual cards through mobile apps. Moment cards are issued anonymously and activated via mobile app verification, while virtual cards exist only digitally for online and QR transactions.
Cashless payments can be made with bank cards, QR codes scanned by phone cameras, or NFC-enabled devices by tapping a card or smartphone at a terminal.
The new mandatory cashless system will cover:
All government services
Payments for electricity, natural gas, and drinking water (excluding bank counters)
Fuel purchases at gas stations and EV charging
Alcohol and tobacco sales
Transactions for real estate and vehicles under 10 years old (categories M, N, O, and G).
