Uzbekistan to Use Artificial Rain to Clean Tashkent Air

Uzbekistan is set to introduce artificial rain technology in Tashkent and the surrounding region in a bold move to improve air quality and address environmental challenges.

Under a decree by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, specialized equipment capable of triggering precipitation in low-humidity areas will be installed by October 1, 2027, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

The initiative will be implemented by the country’s environmental committee, the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, and the higher education ministry, with a phased rollout based on international experience.

Officials say the project will also explore wind management technologies alongside cloud seeding, aiming to create more favorable atmospheric conditions.

Funding will come from a state environmental fund dedicated to tackling nationwide ecological issues.

The goal is ambitious: increase rainfall levels by 10-20% above natural averages, offering a potential boost to air quality and urban living conditions in one of Central Asia’s fastest-growing capitals.
