The representatives of Azerbaijan’s State Maritime and Ports Agency have participated in the second Sustainable Maritime Industry Conference 2025 (SMIC) held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with a delegation led by Habil Abbasov, Advisor to the Chairman of the Management Board, and Ramil Gasimov, Director of the International Relations Department.
Organized by Saudi Arabia’s Transport General Authority (TGA), the conference brought together senior officials from the International Maritime Organization (IMO), International Hydrographic Organization (IHO), and International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO), along with diplomats and leaders from the global maritime sector, The Caspian Post informs via local media.
During the event, Azerbaijan held bilateral meetings with counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Malaysia, and Ukraine. The delegation highlighted the country’s commitment to sustainable maritime transport, stressing the importance of innovation and modern technologies in enhancing operational efficiency and reducing emissions.
The conference focused on regional and international cooperation to curb emissions and promote digital transformation in the maritime sector. Discussions covered the establishment of green shipping corridors, development of standardized digital platforms and emission reporting systems, and creation of sustainability funds to support innovation and small- and medium-sized maritime enterprises.
Sessions and seminars explored advanced maritime technologies, the role of digitalization in improving efficiency and safety, strategies for reducing carbon emissions, and green finance and insurance solutions aimed at fostering sustainable growth in the maritime industry.
