Kenyan TV: Karabakh Among World’s Most Heavily Mined Regions - VIDEO

A new international report is shedding light on one of the world’s most dangerous post-conflict zones - and the scale of the threat is staggering.

A feature by Kenyan broadcaster TV47 highlights that Azerbaijan's Karabakh region remains one of the most heavily mined regions on the planet, years after the end of active hostilities, The Caspian Post reports via TV47.

Journalist Elizabeth Mutuku traveled to the Aghdam District - an area considered among the hardest hit by landmines - where the danger is still present at nearly every step.

“Mines remain hidden underground, along roads, inside homes, and across farmland,” she reports, noting that up to 1.5 million landmines and unexploded ordnance are believed to remain scattered across the region.

Clearing them is a slow, painstaking, and highly dangerous process. Demining teams work methodically, checking each signal and clearing land piece by piece. Demining service representative Namig Balayev said that there is still no clear timeline for when the work will be completed.

Despite the use of advanced tools - including drones and specially trained detection dogs - much of the work still relies on manual labor, underscoring the scale and complexity of the task.

Even so, signs of progress are emerging. Newly uncovered mines and long-buried explosives are being safely removed, offering a glimpse of hope in a region where danger still lies just beneath the surface.
