EU: Central Asia–South Caucasus Ties - Strategic

EU Commissioner for International Partnerships Jozef Síkela has said that closer coordination between Central Asia and the South Caucasus is strategically important and fully aligned with the connectivity agenda outlined in the EU’s new Black Sea Strategy.

Síkela was commenting on Azerbaijan’s accession as a full participant to the Consultative Meetings of Central Asian Heads of State, The Caspian Post informs via Uzbek media.

He noted that better alignment of procedures, standards, and digital systems would make the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route - also known as the Middle Corridor - faster and more predictable for businesses. It would also open new opportunities for joint projects in logistics, port infrastructure, trade facilitation, and green transport.

“For Europe, this means a more reliable and diversified East-West connection. For the region, it brings stronger economic ties and greater stability - benefits that reinforce one another,” the EU Commissioner said.
