US President Donald Trump is set to meet with the leaders of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan next week.
The White House has not commented on the planned November 6 meeting, which aims to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between the US and the Central Asian region, The Caspian Post reports via foreign media.
Following visits to Central Asia, US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau confirmed that Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev will meet with Trump in Washington, describing the visit as a step to “pave the way for a successful summit” of regional leaders.
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also confirmed his participation in the summit and thanked Trump for the invitation in a letter shared on the official Telegram channel of his office.
The summit comes amid Trump’s Asia tour, which includes meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping, who has also shown interest in establishing ties with Uzbekistan. Historically, the Central Asian region has been within Russia’s sphere of influence, making the US-led summit a notable diplomatic move.
Last month, Trump announced a major deal between Uzbekistan Airways and Boeing, valued at approximately $8 billion, covering the purchase of up to 22 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, highlighting growing US-Central Asia economic engagement.
