Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has sharply criticized the European Union's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, accusing her of disregarding Georgia's sovereignty and warning that Tbilisi's future cooperation with the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA) will depend on the organization's actions.
Speaking at a briefing, Kobakhidze condemned Kallas' recent remarks that the EU seeks to support the Georgian people rather than the country's government, The Caspian Post reports via Georgia Online.
"The Russian Federation does not recognize Georgia's sovereignty over 20% of our territory. Kallas does not recognize Georgia's sovereignty over 100% of its territory," Kobakhidze said, arguing that dismissing the Georgian government's mandate amounts to ignoring the will of the country's citizens.
The prime minister also criticized what he described as the EU's treatment of Georgia despite its strategic role as a regional transit hub connecting the Black Sea with neighboring countries. He pointed to a recent EU ministerial meeting on Black Sea cooperation that did not include Georgia at the ministerial level, calling the decision "absurd."
Kobakhidze further said that Georgia's future engagement with the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly would depend on how the organization conducts itself, following the Georgian delegation's boycott of a vote on the Hague Declaration over a resolution concerning Georgia.
The comments came after Kallas said in Brussels that the EU has "virtually no contact" with the Georgian government and is focused instead on supporting the Georgian people while discussing ways to maintain their European aspirations.
