Georgian PM Vows to Prosecute All Involved in Tbilisi Palace Unrest

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has vowed that all individuals involved in the attempted storming of the presidential palace in Tbilisi will be identified and held accountable.

Speaking at a press briefing, Kobakhidze blamed "radical elements" for inciting violence after failing to gather significant public support, The Caspian Post reports via Russian media.

“Radical elements had hoped to draw a much larger crowd to the protest,” he said. “But when the organizers saw they couldn’t even fill Freedom Square, they hastily incited their supporters to violent action. Earlier, they had already announced plans to forcibly overthrow the constitutional order.”

The prime minister warned that the authorities had repeatedly cautioned demonstrators that any resort to violence would trigger strict legal consequences.

“Today, all violent acts will be stopped, and in the coming days, decisive measures will be taken,” Kobakhidze added. “What occurred near the presidential residence constitutes a criminal offense, and all those involved will face prosecution.”

He also accused the protest organizers of acting as foreign agents, claiming they were executing externally driven instructions.

Kobakhidze confirmed that several police officers were injured in the clashes, with at least one reported in serious condition.
