PM: Georgia Ready to Relaunch Relations with US on New Terms

The Georgian government plans to restore its relations with the US “from a clean slate” and in line with a concrete roadmap.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said that the main goal is to take practical and effective steps toward rebooting ties between Tbilisi and Washington, The Caspian Post reports via local media.

“We have publicly expressed our intention to restore relations with the US from a clean slate, guided by a specific roadmap,” Kobakhidze stated. “We will patiently await the position of the US side.”

Transitioning to domestic developments, the prime minister also addressed recent protests in the country, noting that around 5,000 to 7,000 people had deliberately attended a rally demanding the government’s overthrow.

Kobakhidze stressed that everyone witnessed the crimes committed during the demonstration, adding that the state’s response would be “inevitable.”

“All those who were present on October 4 bear moral responsibility for what happened,” he said. “As for the legal responsibility of those who engaged in violence, legal measures are already being taken against them. Several individuals have been identified, and actions will follow in accordance with the law. It is also possible that the number of detainees related to these recent events will increase. I once again emphasize that the state cannot turn a blind eye to such incidents.”
