Political unrest has escalated in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi as demonstrators reportedly breached the outer grounds of the presidential palace amid a wave of protests gripping the nation.
The Georgian Interior Ministry announced that the ongoing rally in Tbilisi violated the legal boundaries outlined in the country’s Law on Assemblies and Manifestations, The Caspian Post informs via local media.
Officials said that the rally, which began peacefully, escalated when organizers called for violence and attempted to breach the presidential palace on Atoneli Street.
“Organizers damaged barriers near the presidential palace and made an attempt to break into the building,” the Interior Ministry said in a public statement.
Authorities have urged demonstrators to remain peaceful and follow lawful instructions from police forces, warning against further provocation.
“If participants do not comply, law enforcement officers will take measures as provided for by law,” the ministry stated.
The Interior Ministry emphasized that all necessary legal actions will be taken to ensure public safety and restore order if tensions continue rising.
The exact cause of the protest and the identities of the organizers have not been disclosed. No injuries or arrests were immediately reported.
