Georgia Hands Over Kazakh Suspect in Bribery Case

A Kazakh citizen has been extradited from Georgia over allegations of bribing a police officer.

The suspect was returned to Kazakhstan from Georgia following an international operation coordinated by the General Prosecutor’s Office of Kazakhstan and the National Central Bureau of Interpol, with support from Kazakhstan’s embassy in Tbilisi, The Caspian Post reports via Kazinform.

According to prosecutors, the man - an individual entrepreneur - is accused of offering money to a police officer in order to avoid criminal liability and ensure the continued operation of his massage salon business.

After the offense, he fled law enforcement and was placed on an international wanted list.

He has been taken into custody and placed in a pre-trial detention facility.

If found guilty, he faces up to seven years in prison along with possible confiscation of property.
