Georgia’s President Joins Environmental Talks in Kazakhstan

Georgia’s President Mikheil Kavelashvili has arrived in Astana, Kazakhstan, to take part in the international environmental forum RES 2026 Summit.

During the visit, Kavelashvili is expected to deliver a speech at the summit’s plenary session, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

A bilateral meeting with President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is also planned, highlighting growing regional cooperation on environmental and sustainability issues.

The Georgian leader is accompanied by a delegation including Environment and Agriculture Minister David Songulashvili, Presidential Administration head Ketevan Kvinikadze, and Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Khvtisiashvili.

Earlier the same day, several regional leaders also arrived in Astana for the summit, including the presidents of Tajikistan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan’s prime minister.

The RES 2026 Summit runs from April 22 to 24 and focuses on environmental protection, sustainable development, and regional cooperation.

At the end of the forum, participating countries are expected to adopt a joint declaration on ecology and sustainability, along with launching a regional action program in partnership with UN agencies for 2026-2030.
